Through its participation in the CONCERTO initiative, the REMINING-LOWEX Minewater project, based in Heerlen and other areas, aims to demonstrate how the geothermal energy stored by mine water can be used as a safe geological way to heat buildings. A key ingredient to the success of "Minewater" was the fact that project leaders had the support of both local authorities and public opinion The local policymakers should try to think at a long-term and make projects sustainable.
